Let's face it: There are some stereotypes about the Lilith Fair music festival people just have to overcome. The music festival of all-female was officially founded in 1997, when singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan decided to create a festival concert tour that will bring together a lineup of female artists only. She did this in reaction to the fact that some concert promoters were willing to promote two artists women in a row. In response, the women joined in the music community to put their stakes in the ground and unequivocally claim space for themselves.
Unfortunately, many people still tend to associate with the Lilith Fair Festival songwriter fare of the 90. Not that there's nothing wrong with that, many of these artists were there from the beginning, as McLachlan itself, or the Indigo Girls, or even country-pop artist Sheryl Crow. But what has changed between 1999-the last Once a Lilith Fair tour was conducted, and 2010 is that the current line has a broad and eclectic artists, crossing genres from hip-hop to classic rock and the country.
Artists of the country this year will include Emmylou Harris, Loretta Lynn and Sugarland Billboard hits. Hip-hop and R & B is represented by Erykah Badu, Mary J. Blige and Jill Scott. There are young pop artists such as Selena Gomez and Kelly Clarkson and pop artists of yesteryear, as the Go-Gos and the Bangles.
But the concert is also a great place to find some of the most interesting indie-rock bands anywhere. Eletronic rockers metric is there, along with bright synth-punk Gossip. You can count songwriters like Beth Orton, Sara Bareilles, and Cat Power and the twin sister duo Tegan and Sara.
Overall, there is much variety in the concert that no matter what genre you prefer, you can be sure to find something that interests you Lilith Fair artists tends only to the name of the larger book, so if you're looking to discover completely unknown up and newcomers, you may be disappointed. But no one leaves the party sad as it brings together some of the most respected names in music.
The festival has evolved considerably since first presented together in late 90's, and is sure to continue to evolve in the future. In 2010, you can expect from the Lilith Fair tour to hit a lot of big cities in terms North America. That includes a couple of dates in Canada (Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto), West Coast U.S. (Seattle, San Diego, Los Angeles) and Midwest (Denver, Chicago, Cleveland, Minneapolis and Indianapolis) before reaching the East Coast (Atlanta, West Palm Beach).
