Jehovah Witness: why don’t you celebrate?
I am a music teacher in public school and so far I just offer alternative activities for my students who can’t sing Jingle Bells or patriotic songs. I had one glimpse of your religions when I asked a fifth grade girl if she would please write about music in her church (study?). I was doing The National Anthem Project perscribed by the Music Educators Association and she couldn’t participate. I have had many Jehovah Witness students over the years. I am respectfully curious. If you write digs against them I will report you, so if you ain’t Jehovah Witness, just click ‘see another’

Hi, on the National Anthem Issue; Well we feel that this would be a form of Nationalism or Even Patriotism meaning my Nation is better than someone else’s Nation. Or serving a “Nation” rather than serving God. In a sense. Most people will say they will die for their country, will they die for God? Most will say they will serve their country, will they serve God? Then you have the pledge the allegiance to the flag thing, You should pledge your allegiance to God. Not some “other item, person, place, or thing” (noun). Luke 4:8 explains this very well. Remember Daniel 3:1-28 The 3 Hebrew boys went through the same type of ceremony, just substitute the Flag with the “golden image” (person, place, or thing). Same thing, Is how we look at it. Yes we as citizens of the country that we live in are obligated to follow support the( LAWS) of the Superior authorities (paying taxes, observing local and state laws registering for selective service (Romans 13:1,5-7). However when it comes to Nationalism and Patriotism we do not get involved or remain Neutral so to speak for Acts 10: 35 says ” but in EVERY Nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.
We just ask that people, students, teachers, others don’t condemn us because we chose not to be involved with these things Just try to understand where “we” are coming from because we certainly understand where others that does these things come from.
As far as the holidays others have given excellent answers and sources to look up but another overview is that think about it.. holidays.. are trying to be made in to Holy days, (notice the spelling of the two).
At a time when people are suppose to be honoring Jesus who is a King and not a baby, which even on other peoples birthdays I’ve never seen them even refer to themselves as a baby at each of their birthday, they portray them as getting older year by year with more candles, but never do they portray Jesus this way,, hmmmm. Besides Jesus was not born on Dec. 25th. it is a man made holi-day it’s not a biblical requirement to celebrate this. However we believe in and serve as Jesus disciples very much.
But at a time when people are suppose to be honoring Jesus is a time when people observe several falsehoods.
No such thing as Santa Clause despite the fact people say ” Its just for fun and for the Children”.
Jesus desire his ” People and Followers ” to Worship God with spirit and TRUTH. (John 4:24).
No truth in Santa, reign deer in the sky, or sliding down chimney, elves, etc.
We just don’t get involved with these things , however we do believe in Loving People, giving and receiving , at anytime of the year not just because of a certain day of the year. However we would like for people not to condemn us but again try to see where we are coming from for we certainly see where others come from.
Edit on Additional details.(Mark 12:17) Looking at the context of that scripture you stated about Caesar. He gave him a coin… At that time talking about paying taxes. This would be in Any Nation that people live in. Think about it. Where was Jesus at the time of saying this.. Jerusalem. So was he talking about only in Jersusalem? No. where ever the individual live. Never in any of the scriptures did Jesus say be patriotic. If We live in this country and believe in Jesus, and someone else live in another country and believe in Jesus what purpose would there be for supporting Patriotism or Nationalism? Jesus was talking about supporting the laws in your country, not supporting the country itself. For In every nation there is someone praying to God. If people in other countries pray to God before a war and people in this country pray to God before a war Who is it that does not want to win his life or freedom over another? This is what is meant to Love thy neighbor as thyself even people in other countries not just people in your own group as this parable that Jesus gave so well explains.
